Honda | November 24, 2010Honda Civic
Honda Civic was first introduced in 1972 as a two door coupe followed by a hatchback. Civic in North America is the second longest running model manufactured by a Japanese car maker. Since its introduction Civic has moved to a luxury market.
Honda cars are always known for their reliability and so does Honda’s Civic.
Honda Civic comes with a smooth ride, fuel efficiency, reliability and low maintenance cost. The car is a complete package for daily commuting need and this has made the car to be in the minds of American car buyers. Civic has the best combination of practicality and style that makes this Honda to be a class leader.
There is not a single reason for Honda pulling out this cars production.
Under the Hood
Honda Civic is made available in two body styles either coupe or a sedan. Both of the styles have variety of trims and there is a vast money difference between the low and the high trim available. The base is the DX followed by LX, EX, EX-L and Si. All the trims stand out for their performance, reliability and safety. All the trims apart from the Si are run on 1.8 liter inline 4 that generates 140 hp and all that power is taken to its wheels through a 5 speed manual transmission or 5 speed auto as optional.
When it comes to performance Si trim is high on numbers. It relies on a 2.0 liter inline four that generates 197 hp which is the most wanted by an enthusiast. And the transmission is kept close ratio six speed manual.
Honda cars have also to offer Civic with a1.8 liter 4 cylinder that runs on CNG (compressed natural gas).
Honda Civic Hybrid has a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder that runs on gas and a 20hp electric motor. And only hybrid comes with CVT (continuously variable transmission).
Inside
Honda Civic comes with perfect combination of functionality and design. The front seating is very comfortable even for above 6 feet. And the rear seats are also comfortable not as compared to the front but it’s the best that a sedan in this class has to offer. Civic coupe lacks seating space at the rear for adults. It best suited for children or to stuff.
Overall the nameplate is a good buy decision if you need fuel efficiency and comfortable city riding. The Civic Hybrid is high on mileage and low on acceleration.
Honda Civic Hybrid
Honda Civic Hybrid is a hybrid version of Civic sedan and was introduced in Japan its birth place. Civic hybrid was shown American land in 2002 as a 2003 model and is based on seventh generation Civic.
Hybrid’s are for those who are environment savvy. Honda Civic Hybrid is a perfect design of high technology, class leading fuel economy and all this comes at an affordable price.
The 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid comes with luxurious interior styling and beats all of its competition when it comes to fuel efficiency. The Honda cars serves the best for small car luxury segment as there are features like leather heated seats satellite radio, voice recognition navigation system and much more.
The Civic Hybrid is offered only in a sedan body style.
Performance
Honda is at its best when it comes to fuel economy and so does Civic hybrid. High fuel economy comes with a compromise on engine power and fun to drive experience. Civic hybrid is too sluggish and doesn’t excite while driving but than it’s because its not made to give an entertaining ride, its made for fuel efficiency and that’s what it does. If you are in need zippy driving form Civic than you can look for other trims of Civic rather than a hybrid.
Honda Civic Hybrid is driven by a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder gas engine backed with an electronic motor that produces 110 horsepower and the power is transmitted to wheels with CVT (continuously variable transmission).
According to EPA ratings for fuel economy Civic gives an impressive of 40 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on highways.
Handling and braking for this machine is just average and we cant expect much as hybrids are not designed as performers.
Interiors
All the Honda Civic models have negatives with its navigation system as it is difficult to use. The interior is done luxuriously but lacks cargo space. The front seats are comfortable but not at its best for a taller driver. And the rear seating is the most comfortable when having two passengers.
The standard interior features includes USB port, auto climate control, audio with six speakers and also the innovative auto audio sound control which adjust the sound with the speed of the car making the audio hearable at high speeds.
For reliability Honda provides basic coverage for first 3 years/36 miles and powertrain coverage is provide for 5 years/ 60,000 miles.
If you don’t need much of cargo space and can compromise on riding dynamics than Honda Civic Hybrid is sure a vehicle you can have a stop on.
